You would think wearing the same thing every day (like a uniform) would get old. But putting on a uniform can be somewhat liberating. Just think about the pure convenience of not having to worry about what you’re going to wear. It’s one less decision to make at the start of your day.
That’s why I’ve always admired members of our military and police. They get to put that uniform on every day and still look razor sharp. Not to mention that the ladies seem to love it!
Now I’m not saying that those of us in civilian life should start wearing the exact same outfit every single day. That would be pretty absurd… unless you’re Steve Jobs.
But we don’t have to go that far to get most of the benefit. All we need are some core staples that will remain constant, like a blazer. We then rotate a few interchangeable pieces. With a few tweaks we can make life easier and still look great.
So let’s get to it. Here is my favorite favorite business casual “uniform” for fall.
The Blazer: A Tweed Herringbone jacket is always a prime choice for fall. The extra weight will provide enough warmth until we hit top coat weather.
The Shirt: I love a white or light blue oxford cotton button down. Clean, crisp and simple. Swap out with: a pale blue dress shirt.
The Pants: Navy chinos are definitely a staple in my wardrobe. They are amazingly versatile and can go from a sport coat/dress shoe combo to a t-shirt/sneaker look. Swap out with: a pair fall appropriate dark brown.

Accessories: A watch, a knit tie (optional), and a patterned pocket square bring it all together.
