In case you haven’t noticed lately, the tie bar is becoming an essential piece of a well dressed man’s wardrobe (thanks Mad Men!).

This simple accessory adds a subtle edge to any shirt and tie combo. It can be dressed up with your favorite suit or casually with an Oxford button down and khakis.

Regardless of what you wear it with we need to know how to wear it. GQ magazine has a great post breaking down the rules.

#1Wear the tie bar between the 3rd and 4th button of your shirt.

#2. Fasten both ends to the placket of your shirt. (Yes I made this mistake initially)

#3. Make sure your tie bar is not longer than your tie!

I’ve seen this all too often. If you’re going to wear a slimmer tie then you obviously need a slimmer tie bar. Proportion is key. (See Fig.3 above).

And there you have it, the 3 rules to master life!..well not quite but you catch my drift.

If you are interested in actually purchasing a few and in need of a budget option then check out www.TheTieBar.com. All tie bars are $15 (not to mention $10 pocket squares and $19 ties.). I’ve been purchasing product here for years and they’ve never let me down.

If you are looking for some really great priced ties to go with those tie bars then I highly recommend Foundation Menswear. They are premium quality and hand made in Italy. see the top of this post for an awesome discount code.

Cheers!
