Being a near 15 year veteran of the cubicle game I’ve come across many style abominations to be sure. After a decade and a half the one violation that rears its ugly head on a daily basis is the pleated pant. Now don’t get me wrong pleated pants definitely have a place in the menswear universe. Unfortunately 99% of those wearing pleats will be way off the mark. Generally a typical office drone will pair a baggy, ill fitting number as seen in the picture above (or here) with an equally terrible Sam’s club “dress” shirt. There is a high likelihood that this will also be a go to look for golf shirt bro.

The Fix

When looking at alternatives you want to focus on the following:

  • Flat front – meaning no pleats at all
  • A tailored fit that tapers from the knee down (no relaxed fits!)
  • A fit that flatters your rear end
  • Good construction. Stay away from polyester and other cheap synthetic materials.
