5 Style Accessories Every Man Needs

You spend your hard earned cash on new suits, dress shirts, oxfords, and sneakers. And just like a new car, laptop, or whatever shiny new toy you just bought a minimum amount of maintenance is required if you want your gear to function and look as good as possible.

Here are 5 products every man needs:

 1. Shoe Trees

Cedar shoe trees are a must for a few reasons:

  • They help your shoes maintain their shape and prevent excessive creasing
  • They absorb moisture and keep your shoes dry and free of mold
  • The odor absorbing cedarwood helps keep the funk to a minimum

Yes you should have shoe trees for pretty much every decent pair of shoes you own including boots and sneakers.

2. A Shoe Horn

Allen Edmonds $14.50

Remember as a kid when you would just slide your shoes on in a hurry and just flatten the heel? That was a great way to destroy those K-Mart Trax mom just dropped $14.95 on. Please stop doing this.

Enter the shoe horn. It’s a tool that lets you slide your shoe on easily without crushing the shoe’s counter (the vertical portion of the shoe that wraps around the back of the foot). Here’s a video showing you how to use one.

3.  An Extra Wide Suit Hanger

$24.99 via Amazon

These extra wide hangers will give your suits and sport coats the extra support they need. That’s especially important for helping the shoulders keep their shape and avoiding unwanted creases and dimples. Also great for casual jackets and top coats.

4. Wooden Shirt Hangers

For years I would hang all my dress shirts on those super cheap and flimsy dry cleaner hangers. The result was many ruined shirts, especially in the shoulder area. A wire hanger will stretch and pull your shirt (sometimes permanently) in all the wrong places.

In my opinion you should replace your entire hanger collection and thanks to the power of Amazon Prime you can get a 30 pack for under $25! As a bonus by replacing all your old hangers you can create a clean and streamlined look for your closet.

5. Metal Collar Stays

Avoid the dreaded fly away collar with this must have item. Unless your shirt is made by a premium brand it will probably come with those cheap, flimsy stays that look like this:

Like we mentioned above about the hangers I suggest that you replace all your stays. It’s too cheap, too easy and will pay big dividends:

  • Your collar will stay nice and crisp
  • The metal won’t allow your collar to collapse under the weight of a suit or sport coat.
